Today I am sharing how I teamed up with Wayfair to add a pop of color to my living room! It was quite the process, and I am thrilled with where the journey took me.
We moved into our new home almost a year ago, and what a whirlwind of a year it has been! We have been remodeling our home most of that time, and I haven’t gotten around to doing much, if any decorating. Our poor living room has sat bare for most of this time! Welcome to an empty room! I have been in survival mode with pregnancy #3 and am just a few weeks away from having this baby. Nesting has set in and I decided its high time to hang some art and get our living room put together!
We started out with nothing. I gathered up my basics, couch, piano, a few pillows I had in storage, placed my bookshelves and decided on some possible art for the room. This was quite the leap for me. I have been dragging my feet to make any holes in our newly painted walls!
I set some goals for the room design:
1-Use nature-inspired colors and rich tones to add depth and warmth to this otherwise empty space.
2-Keep everything functional and cosy for our busy, growing family.
3-Incorporate sentimental items that have meaning and memory for me.
I had several of the basic furniture items already collected, but needed to find something that added interest. I spent some time looking at Wayfair’s extensive website and thought at first that I might purchase a big coffee table to go in the room. At the last minute, I decided I wanted a more open feel and opted for a gorgeous moroccan pouf!
It has a deep, warm leather that adds the perfect amount of nature to the center of the room! I am a sucker for anything leather. It fit our need for a place to rest your feet, but doesn’t monopolize the open area for kids to play and people to gather.
In my attempt to bring a more nature-inspired feel to the room I wanted to make sure to hang some of the art I had that speaks that tune. In the beginning I was planning to hang my white framed landscape painting alone, but when I placed it above the white piano It didn’t quite fit the bill. I gathered up several of my dark wood framed pieces and settled on a more varied gallery wall!
It took some time deciding what to hang where. It was pretty comical being 9 months pregnant and ready to pop, sweating like crazy trying to accomplish this gallery wall! Ah, the persistence of a nesting mother!
I am so proud I finally got some art hung! I LOVE how the deeper wood framed art really pops and compliments our white piano. Each piece compliments the next and gives it a balanced, earthy appeal.
Next up was the great dilemma of the empty bookshelves! Rather than fill up the entire thing with decorations and knickknacks, I wanted to actually store some of my favorite books, gasp! I feel like there is a trend going on showing book shelves chalk-full of everything and anything besides books. I still planned to place a few picture frames and sentimental items, but my favorite book collections needed a home here as well. Enter woven baskets…. All my glorious novels that aren’t quite as pretty as one would hope after ruffling all the pages still needed a place of honor, so I stacked them in these baskets for easy access and a clean look!
I wasn’t overly concerned with every piece being one of the four colors I was attempting use in this living room upgrade, because frankly, a little imperfection gives it a more real, lived-in feel. I don’t want my house to feel like a museum… I just want it to be us. It should reflect who we are, what we love and what we do! Seeing several things from my grandmother on display has made me so happy! I had a great time selecting a few of my favorite cookbooks to show off in this space as well.
To complete the natural vibes in our living room I needed some green… Not $$, something more alive. Ha ha. I found a wonderfully aromatic Gardenia plant and a few other bright pops of green to liven things up a bit!
I cannot even tell you how amazing the Gardenia smells! It is so great because you can smell it’s soft aroma the minute you walk in the door. Win-win!
All in all I feel like this Living Room is on it’s way! It may not be quite perfect, but really, what room in a house full of kids is? So far I am loving it. This room has been my quiet (ish) escape and chill zone for the last week and I am loving it. Nothing makes me happier than all the nature inspired colors and relaxing art. Next up on the list is to pour over Wayfair.com to find some pillows to really enhance the look and feel of this room… I’m thinking jade green and indigo? Maybe a palm leaf pillow? We shall see!
Wayfair is always one of the first places I go to find great deals on home decor, and to get inspired for a project like this! I can’t wait to see what I find next!
